Cycle Safety
All students at Worthing High School who cycle to school are required to wear a cycle helmet. This is to ensure that all students who cycle to and from school do so in a safe manner.
Recently the cycle injuries in the Worthing area have risen above other regions. We work together with Worthing Cycle Forum, West Sussex Fire and Rescue, Sussex Police and WSCC to ensure all students are safe on the roads. Members of the West Sussex Fire and Rescue team come into school to complete a presentation to students about cycle safety. They bring an appliance and an LGV to the school for the day so students can sit in the driver’s seat and see the blind spot in the nearside mirror as a lot of cycle fatalities come from cyclists coming up the nearside of LGVs at traffic lights and roundabouts.
Parents/Carers are asked to ensure that students wear a helmet when cycling to and from school and that they follow the conditions in the cycle to school permit to prevent further cycle injuries.
