Dear Year 11 parents carers,

General information about leavers day and exams

As you will be aware GCSE examinations start on 16^th May and the Year 11s have their official leaving assembly tomorrow from 12:30 to 13:30, at which point they will be dismissed.

From Monday 16^th May, students are only expected to come into school when they have an examination or a specific revision session. The dates and times of the revision sessions correspond with their exams and wherever possible will be the day before or the morning before. A timetable of all the revision sessions will be shared with students on the Year 11 Google calendar and in assembly tomorrow. Parents/carers are also able to view this document, which has examination times as well. A link to this will be shared tomorrow.

A reminder that students must wear full school uniform when they come to school, for exams and for revision sessions and we ask that students ensure they arrive promptly.

Information about the prom

The prom is on 14^th July at Field Place and will take place from 7pm to 11pm. Prom tickets and the leavers pack can still be purchased through WisePay. The tickets are £45 or the full package, which includes hoody, leavers book, prom ticket and prom phots is £85. This is cheaper than buying them all individually.

Information about illness (including Covid-19) during exams

Guidance has been emailed to parents and carers on procedures for students who cannot attend exams who are too ill or have Covid-19.

In short, this should only be in exceptional circumstances and students must attend examinations if they are well enough. Students with Covid-19 and other respiratory-based illness, still need to follow UKHSA guidance and self-isolate for 3 days. If they arrive in school with symptoms, we will also follow UKHSA guidance and send them home.

If they miss exams, due to covid or other illness, they cannot do it again in this exam series. Parents/carers will then need to fill out a form confirming the legitimacy of the illness. The school will then complete a form giving the examining body additional information. The examining body will then make a decision on whether special circumstances apply and whether their final outcome will be based on the paper(s)/components they have sat or whether the missed paper will just be subtracted from, the overall grade. I must stress, this is not Worthing High’s decision and the exam board can reject special consideration.

If your child is too ill to sit an exam, please let the school know straight away by calling the absence line and emailing our exams officer
